Great Men’s Hair Stylist in Hillsborough
How to find a great men’s hair stylist
Some guys have difficult hair. They have cowlicks and waves. These aren’t exactly the guys who can go to a barbershop and expect a great style to be had. Finding a great stylist can be a challenge. If you are looking for a great men’s hair stylist, here are some tips you should know before allowing anyone to cut your hair.
Never walk into a salon and settle for whatever stylist is available. You may get stuck with the least experienced or less talented stylist. There is a reason why great stylists are always booked and rarely available for walk-ins.
Look for a stylist that specializes in men’s hair. Even if your wife/girlfriend or another female you know swears by her stylist, and always has great looking hair, they might not be right for you. There is no reason to shy away from unisex salons. The best stylists come from them. Just make sure the stylist you choose is experienced with men’s haircuts.
Trust the expert
A great stylist will tell you the truth when you have a bad idea about your haircut. If they think your idea of coloring some gray is a bad idea, a good stylist will tell you so rather than try to upsell you into something more profitable for the salon. A bad stylist will upsell relentlessly and even suggest things you’ve never consider like trying to get you to let them dye your eyebrows. You don’t need that.
Go for the high talent
If possible, find a men’s hair expert who is also an owner of the salon. That person may be more expensive but you are guaranteed to be in the right hands. An owner also won’t disappear on you to go work at another salon. You are looking for a stylist that you will have a long-term relationship with. If you do find someone you love and they leave your current salon, follow them to wherever they are going. You aren’t committing yourself to the salon; you are committing yourself to the talent.
These tips, of course, do not apply to anyone with a buzz cut or a style that any chain salon can handle. But if you do have thick or wavy hair or hair that is a bit difficult to tame, finding a salon is your best bet for the best cut. Don’t be afraid to ask a hair stylist a question or even float around to different ones. You will find the person who understands your hair but it may take a minute. Hair stylists also don’t take it personally if you don’t like what they’ve done with your hair. They would rather you move on to someone you feel more comfortable with than both of you feeling uncomfortable.
