Before you get into the shower, detangle your hair. This makes it easier to work through both a shampoo and a conditioner. You can find the small knots beforehand so you will spend less time de-knotting in the shower. Apply conditioner in the shower. The general rule is, the longer your hair, the more you need. Work the conditioner from root to tip, making sure it is evenly coated. Leave in for a few minutes and rinse. Once you are out of the shower, apply a leave-in conditioner and use a wide tooth shower comb to brush.
Other ways to prevent knots include putting your hair in braids or a silk scarf before bedtime to prevent friction on tangles. Use a silk pillowcase, which keeps hair silkier and less likely to tangle.
