Salon Hair Products For You in Hillsborough
Finding the right products for your hair
How do you choose the right products for your hair type? Hair itself is either healthy and unproblematic (neutral) or it’s dry. The scalp can secrete excess sebum and make your hair greasy but hair doesn’t just become greasy. You need to find the right products adapted to your hair type. When you visit your hair salon, ask your hairdresser what sort of scalp you have. You can even find the answer to this from your dermatologist.
Once you have found the right product for your hair type, you need to use it properly and regularly. After each wash, use a detangling conditioner or balm, and use a mask once or twice a week for 5-10 minutes. Doing it once every two weeks or so isn’t enough and won’t do your hair any good.
Most hair salons carry products that they believe are good products for your hair. If you trust your hair dresser (and you should!) then trust that they will not steer you wrong when it comes to products. Occasionally, you will find that their recommendations don’t work in your hair and that’s ok. You need to do some homework and find what works for your hair. One tip to remember, not only read your ingredients but also read what a particular product says it does for your hair. You don’t want to use a shampoo that caters to thick, curly hair if you have fine, straight hair. Products are segregated by hair type for a reason.
Another thing to remember is that just because you love a high-end shampoo with a double-digit price tag doesn’t mean you have to use the same brand of conditioner, hairspray, serum, etc. Your stylist might try to push the whole line on you, saying they work best together, but it’s totally fine to save cash by splurging on one hair care item and hitting the drugstore for the rest.
If you have really fine hair, consider a “wash and wear” haircut and shampoo your hair daily. However, if your hair is wavy or curly, it tends to be drier and needs to retain moisture, so you really shouldn’t shampoo that type of hair every day. Make sure you find the type of product that works for whatever texture your hair is in order for it to look and feel its best.
If your hair has been highlighted every time it has been colored, the chances of overlapping and over processing are greater than not. Try breaking your base instead of highlights when it’s time for your color touch ups. That way, you’ll give your hair a small break while saving money and looking color fresh. This means that you should also be looking at products for color treated hair as much as it works for the texture of your hair.
With so many products on the market, understanding your hair texture and type is imperative. It will help you to find the best shampoos, conditioners, and styling products that work best for your hair. If you aren’t sure, contact your hair salon for their tips and suggestions. At Legends Salon of Hillsborough, we can help you define your hair type to maximize your hair’s best self!
