Summer Hair Color Tips by Legends Salon
Maintaining hair color during the summer
Have you just colored your hair for the perfect summer look? Keeping your hair color vibrant when you are enjoying the sun and sea doesn’t need to be that hard. After you visit your local hair salon to achieve the perfect color, whether its sun-kissed blonde, daring black or bold red, use these simple tips to avoid fading those amazing shades of color.
Exposure to the sun can leave your hair frizzy, dried out and can even wash out its color. You don’t have to avoid the sun altogether to make sure that you maintain your hair color. Many shampoos, conditioners and styling aids contain UV protection. Limit the use of hair care products that contain high levels of alcohol, as these will only amplify damage that the sun can cause.
If you have a bright or bold hair color, the chlorine and sun can cause fading and even streaking. Make sure to rinse your hair out after swimming to remove leftover chlorine. If you are out in the sun in general, make sure you are using a shampoo to product your color. Once you hop out of the pool, grab an after sun shampoo and rinse off really quickly. You can even stay in your bathing suit, just get the chlorine out of your hair as soon as possible.
Moisturize your hair
Just like your skin, the sun and outdoor elements of summer can leave your hair dry. To keep it hydrated, use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for dry hair. You may also want to consider using a natural hair oil or hair mask, which will immediately moisturize and nourish dry hair. Brushing your hair will also help with hydration. Don’t wait too long after swimming to rinse your hair out. The longer you leave chlorine on your hair, the more time it has to dry it out.
Put it up
When you are preparing to head to the beach or friend’s pool, pack plenty of bobby pins or damage free ponytail holder. Keeping your locks pinned back or pulled up is the best way to protect your hair while keeping it neat as well. Don’t forget to pack a hat as well. Keeping your hair out of the elements in the first place is the best way to protect the color and your hair in general.
The warm summer months shouldn’t mean you have to stay in the house after you have colored your hair. You just need to be a little proactive and aware of what the sun and chlorine can do to your hair. When you have all the basics, you can take care of it better.
After you have gone to your local hair salon to get the fun dream color you have always wanted for summer, make sure you take care of it. Not only will it keep your hair healthy, it will help your color last longer.
